Bernard Harborne, a British national, has been appointed as the new World Bank (WB) country director for Cote d'Ivoire, in replacement of Peter Ngomba from Cameroon, according to a statement issued by the bank on Wednesday Apr 25, 2007.
Harborne, who began his duties in Cote d'Ivoire's capital of Abidjan in early April, was previously working at the bank's headquarters in Washington, where he was chief advisor on conflicts in Africa.
Harborne is familiar with WB operations in Cote d'Ivoire, having worked here, from 2004 to 2007, on conflicts in Africa and on operational aspects of the bank's involvement in countries affected by conflicts.
Before coming to the WB, he worked for two years as a senior advisor on conflict for the British international development department, where he was in charge of funds for conflict prevention in Africa.
Lawyer by training, Harborne has worked for 15 years for the United Nations in Africa, Asia and Middle-East.
